Newark and Sherwood's Grant Aid Scheme, administered by Active4Today, provides financial support to clubs and individuals in need of a boost to get a project off the ground, gain a qualification or provide access to a leisure centre for a national athlete.
In january 2017, the grants panel supported RHP Cricket Club in acquiring some new covers for the season. The covers aid preparation of the wicket, and enables play after inclement weather. Colin Lambert, Chairman of RHPCC said "not only have the covers helped us prepare better surfaces, they have enabled more cricket to actually be played. Junior teams as well as the senior side have all benefitted by playing games that would otherwise have been abandoned". Colin added "we have been delighted by the support we have recieved from NSDC and Active4Today; the support recieved makes a huge difference to a small club like ours".
Newark Basketball club has been busy this summer on an internal league. Back in April 2017, the grant panel passed the application for equipment and officiating courses for U14's and U16's so they could run their own league. Using players recruited from a succesful satellite scheme, over 40 players and 20 officials engaged in the scheme that lasted 12 weeks. Dr Andrew Coe, Head coach of Newark Basketball Club said "we managed to recruit new players, and give them the extra responsibility of officiating both on the court and on the table. The lads have developed their leadership skills thanks to this opportunity".
